You can zoom in or out on the track by using the scrolling button of the mouse :
Mouse wheel : Horizontal zoom in/zoom out.
Shift + Mouse wheel : Vertical zoom in/zoom out.
For the vertical zoom the button 
can also be used.
It changes the display, but not the volume.
